The government of India is looking to stop its citizens from gambling at online gambling websites based in countries other than India. Gambling is mostly illegal in India. However, that doesn’t stop the company’s citizens from gambling.

The Indian government is working hard to keep its citizens from logging into online poker and blackjack websites.  It has become difficult, primarily because there are so many citizens (more than 1 billion people) to police.

Foreign gambling websites have a strong interest in India because the potential for earnings is so great. In fact, some people purport that it has more potential for growth than any other country in the world. According to the Media Entertainment Consulting Network (MECN), the country could potentially produce $50 billion in revenues from online gambling.

While India is seeking to block online gambling websites, Sri Lankan is courting foreign investors for hotels and Sri Lankan online casinos. The hope is that Indian and Chinese gamblers will travel to Sri Lankan to gamble.
