National Heads-Up Poker Championship: Elite Eight

The National Heads Up Poker Championship is set to air on April 18th 2010 on NBC. However, the Elite Eight has already been determined. The final eight players are Erik Seidel, Peter Eastgate, Jerry Yang, Annie Duke, Dennis Phillips, Scotty Nguyen, Doyle Brunson and Jason Mercier. The match ups are as follows:

Erick Seidel v. Peter Eastgate (Clubs Bracket)
Jerry Yang v. Annie Duke (Diamonds Bracket)
Scotty Nguyen v. Jason Mercier (Spades Bracket)
Doyle Brunson v. Dennis Phillips (Hearts Bracket)

This list looks like a whos’ who of the poker world. Many of these players are amongst the best in the game. Though each of these individuals definitely have the skill level and experience to advance this far, typically there are quite a few upsets. This year, it looks like those individuals expected to win, did. Annie Duke is the only female remaining. Doyle Brunson defeated Annette Obrestad, who would have doubled that figure.
