Tournament of Champions Returned

It has been nearly 4 years since the WSOP (World Series of Poker) hosted the Tournament of Champions. This year, it is returning. This freeroll event has a prize pool or $1,000,000. Half of that will go to the winner.

This event will be a bit unique because most of the participants, 20 out of the 27, will be chosen via a public poll. Fans can vote their favorite players in by visiting WSOP.com.  Five players are guaranteed picks. They include Annie Duke, Mikes Sexton and Mike Matusow. These three have won the event in the past. Barry Shulman and Joe Cada will receive the final 2 of the 5 guaranteed spots.

As stated above 20 spots will be voted on. This leaves 7open spots. Five of those are guaranteed to the individuals listed above. The additional two openings will be given to players via qualifiers, including an online tournament.

The Tournament of Champions will be held on June 27th. The final table will take place8 places later on July 4, 2010.  The event will be televised on ESPN on August 3rd.
