Atlantic City Casinos Off to a Flying Start

- February 21, 2017 By Riley Wilson -

Atlantic City casinos enjoy excellent results in January 2017.

Atlantic City’s casinos can be satisfied with the beginning of the year, having reported a significant increase in revenue.

In comparison with the same month of 2016, all seven of Atlantic City casinos grossed 15.2% more money, although the main reason for such a low income in January of last year were poor weather conditions.

Atlantic City Casinos Earn Over $200m in January

The numbers published by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement showed that the State’s brick and mortar casinos earned a total of $204.7 million during January. That’s a rise of 7.7%, which is definitely a good result, but it pales in comparison with a whooping 29% increase in online casino income, which ended the past month with $18.8 million.

Although the state’s Casino Control Commission expressed its satisfaction with the results, they emphasize the fact that such high numbers weren’t revealing the full story.

Last year, Winter Storm Jonas, a crippling and historic blizzard that hit the Mid-Atlantic part of the East Coast, was the major culprit for such dismal results.

Matthew Levinson, Chairman and CEO of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission stated that all operators had managed to outscore last year’s revenue, while some even managed to achieve record-breaking results.

Double Digit Increase for Four Casinos

Borgata casino in Marina, opened in 2003 and the youngest of all operating casinos, recorded its best-ever January income with the rise of 13.5%. Borgata, Caesars Atlantic City, Nugget and Tropicana Atlantic City all recorded double-digit increase.

By far the best result was achieved by Caesars, one of the oldest Atlantic City casinos, with the increase of 41%. Tropicana moved up by 14%, while Golden Nugget scored a fine 20.2% increase.

Midtown’s Bally’s achieved a modest result of 0,6%, but nevertheless, managed to improve last year’s figures.

Since these results are from land-based operations, we must mention those recorded online. The last year’s market leader, Borgata, was surpassed by both Golden Nugget and Caesars.
