Major League Baseball have seen one of the strangest weekends in the league’s history, but what is even more impressive is that one lucky punter managed to capitalise on what was a strange sequence of events.

For the first time in MLB history, all 15 home sides won their matches last weekend, and the odds on this happening were no fewer than 32,768 to 1, according to Stats.com.

UK bookmaker William Hill was hardly in celebratory mood as one bettor from Ireland somehow managed to predict this would happen having placed an accumulator bet on all 15 home sides to win, staking £50.

He ended up landing the top prize of £64,543, before admitting he would have never placed the wager had he known that had never happened before.

The previous record for most wins achieved by home teams was set back in 1914, when a total of twelve teams, including four from the Federal League had won their matches on the same day.

There were more good news for sports betting enthusiasts placing their wagers at well-known UK bookies, although this next punter did not exactly make the most out of the opportunity that presented itself.

Coral Pays Out £50k Instead of £275k

Said player decided to risk just £5 and placed an accumulator involving a total of 11 teams playing in the first round of English Capital One Cup.

With ten of those matches taking place on Tuesday, the punter only needed Portsmouth to defeat Derby County on the following day and he would be richer for £274,000.

However, he was probably feeling the nerves having come so close to bumper payout and decided to use Coral’s early cash-out option and secured £50,000 in winnings.

As that usually happens, Portsmouth eventually won their game, but having pocketed £50k on a £5 bet, the player was probably up for celebrations nonetheless.

Seeing as online bookmakers tend to get the best of punters most of the time, all sports betting enthusiasts are happy to hear of cases when a bettor wins top payout without risking too much of his own cash.
