Proposed Casino in East Windsor
- March 6, 2017 By Samantha A. -
After a public hearing was held this past Saturday the selectmen of the East Windsor board approved upon the agreement for the construction of a casino that would ultimately compete with the casino in Springfield that is much larger.
The night before the public hearing the two casino expansion bills which are competing, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods pushed their plans forward releasing a version of their own projected East Windsor casino.
MMCT Venture envisions a 200 thousand square foot entertainment gaming facility that will be located off of I91 constructed right on the Showcase Cinema property which has been vacant for a long period of time.
On, Thursday the public security and safety committee will hold a public hearing regarding the two casino expansion bills. If either of these bills are approved by the Senate as well as the House fully, it could ultimately mean the construction of the very first casino within the state which will be located off of a tribal reservation.
The East Windsor casino that is being proposed with be around the size of a Wal-Mart that is located very close by and would be the home to more than 2 thousand slot machines as well as 50 to 150 gaming tables. Only half of the location will be actually devoted to the casino gaming entertainment, the other half would be consumed with restaurants, shops as well as other forms of entertainment. MMCT actually signed off on a development agreement this past week with East Windsor.
The legislation is actually requiring the venue to pay a total of 25% of the slot machine revenue as well as another 25% of the gaming table revenue to the state itself. It has been stated that this could ultimately add up to 10 million dollars to the tourism promotion budget for the state.
