William Hill Considers US Expansion, IGT Enters Mississippi Market

- August 8, 2018 By Oliver Young -

The establishment of a pro online gambling association might help the legalisation cause.

Operators and providers show interest in the lucrative US sports betting market.

It seems that the US casino industry has been attracting lots of attention these past few days as big names have expressed plans to enter its market. Namely, the leading UK casino and sports betting operator William Hill has announced expansion in the US.

IGT, a reputable game developer, on the other hand, has revealed entering the lucrative Mississippi market. Another big player to enter the USA market is The Stars Group; however, the company has shown interest in getting a share of the US sport betting market.

All these details were perfectly topped up by financial reports showing strong earnings for Nevada casinos in June. Additionally, the three Delaware casinos managed to scoop over $8 million in sports bets in the period between 25th of June and 29th of July.

Everyone Wants to Become Part of the Lucrative US Sports Betting Market

Possibly the most interesting news was the interest shows by William Hill to expand in the US. Many recognize William Hill as one of the top UK gambling operators; thus, this is huge.

According to reports, the company will provide mobile betting technology as well as risk management services to a minimum of 11 casinos in Mississippi. Moreover, the operator is also expected to expand in West Virginia too by providing both retail and online sports betting.

Strengthening its US presence seems important to William Hill; currently, the company is present in Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey.

In a similar move, The Stars Group has also announced jumping into the US sports betting market or, more precisely, into the New Jersey sport betting market. Namely, the company, best known for its PokerStars platform, has partnered up with the Resorts Casino Hotel, with which they already have an agreement for poker and online casino games. This is not the first such move this year for the Canadian operator. Namely, earlier this year The Stars Group acquired the UK Sky Betting & Gaming for a total of $4.7 billion.

Another top name interested to grab a share of the Mississippi market is IGT. Namely, the US provider has partnered with Boyd Gaming casinos for its pre-game and in-game sports betting services.

Nevada Casinos June Revenues Reach $933 Million

When it comes to the USA casino industry, everything seems to be doing well; for Nevada casinos at least. Namely, the June revenues for Nevada casinos reached $933 million, a figure improved for 4.1% y-o-y. Impressive $281.6 million came from sports betting, while baccarat, blackjack, roulette and craps noted respective revenues of $1.25 billion, $1.17 billion, $381.2 million and $395.8 million.

Another state to note excellent results was Delaware; namely, its three casinos received over $8 million in sports bets in a month. More precisely, the period covered in the report starts on 25th of June and ends on 29th of July. Out of the three casinos, the best performing one was Delaware Park thanks to its numerous visitors from neighboring states.
