Iowa, the First State to Legalize Online Gambling?
Legislators ad pro-gambling groups have been attempting to legalize online gambling on the Federal level for some time now. They have, thus far, been unsuccessful. Well, it looks like legislators are trying a different approach. Law makers in Iowa are attempting to legalize at the state level.
If this legislation passes, Iowa would be the first state in the U.S. to legalize online gambling. It is estimated that 50,000 Iowans participate in online gambling, though illegally. These 50,000 individuals spend about $11.5 million on gambling. Iowa legislators see this as missed financial opportunities for the state.
The Iowa plan would work in such a way that the state would get a cut of the gambling revenue. Players would be required to go to a local casino and make a deposit. $50 would be the minimum. They could then access their online accounts from their computer. This helps offline casinos while still allowing players to participate in games online.
