More Then 900 Jailed For Online Gambling
918 Chinese persons were arrested for illegal online gambling. The only forms of gambling allowed in China are state-operated lotteries. Online gambling is illegal as are any type of casino-style games.
The individuals arrested were not players but internet casino operators. The government is planning and executing a huge crack down on the individuals that run illegal online operations. In just the last 14 days, the government has closed down 210 websites and arrested nearly 1000 people. An additional 315 people were punished and 100 more sites warned.
The crackdown on illegal online gambling websites began in the early part of February and is expected to the last until roughly September. The government agencies working on this initiative include the People’s Bank of China, MPS and a number of other financial regulatory bodies and government ministries.
