Diamond Empire is a posh, richly-decorated video slot by Microgaming, released in April of 2018. It brings modern visuals to the classic 3-reel format, complete with all the expected symbols. The game is played on 3 reels and has 15 fixed paylines. The music is quite upbeat and had us tapping our foot along to the rhythm. The gameplay of this slot is suited for players who like things simple but lucrative.

The winning potential is something else, with a shot at winning up to 10,000 coins during normal gameplay. Of course, the odds are stacked against you, but that’s what makes the chase so thrilling! Diamond Empire has two minor special features – Wilds with attached multipliers and a Bonus Wheel that grants cash prizes.

HOW TO PLAY

The game has a 3-reel, 3-row layout. It uses 15 fixed paylines, which have to be followed, otherwise your winning combination will not count. Gamblers can set their wagers between $0.15 and $15 per spin, which is a decent betting spread. Not the best we’ve seen from Microgaming, but it makes sense with such high volatility. To win, collect three matching icons in consecutive positions, following one of the fixed paylines. All winning combinations must be from left to right. You can choose to spin manually or use the Autoplay function to let the slot do it for you.

As is often the case with 3-reel games, all prizes except the top one are filler. The same rings true in Diamond Empire, too. On the board, you will find three types of bar symbols, a pair of cherries, lucky sevens, and diamonds. Bar icons can mix with each other to award prizes, but they pay less compared to pure bar symbol wins. The least valuable icon win is 0,33x, while the highest paying symbol grants 666,67x your total stake.

OTHER FEATURES

Nowadays, 3-reel slots usually come in two formats. One, with a whole heap of bonuses that makes their gameplay similar to their 5-reel counterparts. Others keep things simple, and may not even have any special features at all. This Microgaming release seems to sit on the fence, unable to decide where it wants to be. As a result, it ends up feeling mediocre, despite fantastic prizes.

Wild

The regal diamond symbol is Wild and is also the highest paying icon in the whole game. It can substitute for all symbols except for Scatters. If a winning combination includes one or two Wilds, the awarded prize will be multiplied by 2x or 4x, respectively. A three-of-a-kind Wild win does not have any multipliers.

Scatter

Scatters are only used to activate the Bonus Wheel. They do not have their own cash prize or any other function outside of that. They’re quite rare to find, so make good use of them!

Special Features

Once the Bonus Wheel is active, it will spin a single time. The wheel will output a cash prize, which is then deposited to the players balance. The maximum amount of money you can win from this special feature is 888x your total bet. More than winning with a five-of-a-kind Wild combination, which is already as rare as it gets!

The slot looks and plays identically, no matter whether you play it on desktop, phone or tablet. Microgaming have gone out of their way to ensure your experience will be smooth and enjoyable. The layout is well suited for touch-screen controls. In fact, the user interface is quite similar between the desktop and mobile versions of the game. We cannot deny that the port was very well done. We hope to see the same standard in all future releases by Microgaming.
